Kingman State Fishing Lake is located 7 miles west of Kingman on highway 54. The scenic 140 acre lake and the associated 4,685 acre Byron Walker Wildlife Area offer 2 modern rental cabins that overlook the lake. The area charges no entry fees and the cabins are available year-round. The wildlife area and lake provide hunting, fishing, fur-harvesting, hiking, and wildlife viewing recreation. Primitive camping is available year-round at no charge and a newly refurbished group shelter is available for family gatherings. The cabins (Ninnescah and Sand Plum) are heated/air conditioned and sleep six comfortably in one full bed, one single futon, one double futon, and one single Murphy bed. Users must provide their own bedding, pillows, towels, and toiletries. A hot shower, complete kitchen, refrigerator, stove top, oven, and microwave are included along with an outdoor patio, picnic table, fire ring, and bench. Other amenities include kitchen utensils, dishes, pots, pans, coffee maker, and toaster. Prospective cabin renters need to understand that Kingman State Fishing Lake is not a Park and is managed differently than parks. In particular, all cabin reservations must be made at least 3 days in advance. No walk-up reservations are available at the cabins. There is also no point of sale available at the lake so reservations must be made online, via phone (or in person) through the Great Plains Nature Center (316-683-8069). No pets are allowed in the cabins or tied/chained to the cabins. The city of Kingman is located 7 miles east of the lake and Pratt is located 24 miles west of the lake.
